Freezer Repair in Phoenix
Frost build-up, failed defrost cycles and rising temperatures on Sub-Zero freezer columns, drawers and built-in sections.
What people describe when they call
- Ice sheeting across the rear wall of the freezer
- Freezer sitting above 10°F with the compressor never resting
- Drawer or door that no longer closes because of ice
- Meltwater pooling in the bottom of the cabinet
Have this ready
- The model number — inside the fresh-food door frame, or behind the lower grille
- What the display reads, and what a thermometer inside says
- Any noise, ice or water, and when it started
- Whether the unit is integrated or panel-ready
Ten seconds of that on the phone is usually the difference between one visit and two.
Diagnosis
What it usually turns out to be
- 01
The defrost circuit has quit
Heater, terminator or the control timing that runs them. Ice that sheets down the rear wall and comes straight back after you clear it by hand is this fault and not a door left ajar.
- 02
Humid air getting in
Monsoon weeks push damp air at every seal in the house. A gasket that has gone hard, or a drawer that no longer pulls square, lets it in — and frost forms exactly where that air lands, usually around the fan housing or the drawer rails.
- 03
A drain that cannot drain
Defrost water has to leave down a trough and a tube. Blocked or frozen, it backs up, ice builds under the baskets and meltwater ends up on the floor. Thawing it is half the job; finding why it froze is the other half.
What it costs
Where the repair is likely to land
Flat $89 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it.
- Door gasket or seal replacement $270–$670
- Evaporator or condenser fan motor $330–$720
- Defrost heater, thermostat or sensor $300–$600
- Ice maker, water valve or supply line $290–$830
- Electronic control board $410–$1,000
- Compressor or sealed-system repair $1,300–$3,200
Each row is a range because two calls that open with the same symptom rarely close the same way: which part has actually failed, and how much cabinetry has to come apart to reach it, both move the figure inside its band.
Your own repair gets a single number — parts and labour together — as soon as the fault is found, and that number is agreed with you before anything is dismantled. The $89 already spent on the visit comes off it the moment you approve the work.
Not sure which row a symptom belongs in? Tell Sub-Zero Repair Experts of Phoenix what the cabinet is doing on (623) 323-5056 and you will hear the likely band before anyone drives out.

Asked about this repair
Freezer Repair: two things worth knowing
Why does ice keep coming back after I defrost it by hand?
Because manual defrosting clears the symptom and not the cause. Ice returns when the defrost heater, sensor or timer has quit, or when humid air is being pulled in through a tired gasket — and in monsoon season that second one is very common here.
The freezer holds around ten degrees instead of zero. Is that urgent?
It is worth a call this week rather than next month. A cabinet running that warm is usually working flat out to do it, which puts hours on the compressor, and frozen food held at ten degrees degrades even though it never actually thaws.

The upper freezer drawer would not close and the whole cavity had iced over during monsoon week. A torn drawer seal was pulling humid air in. New seal, ice cleared, and it shuts properly again.
Caspian R.Desert Ridge
Ice sheeted down the back of the freezer column until the drawer stopped sliding. The defrost heater had opened up. New heater and sensor, drain flushed, and the panel is still clear six weeks on.
Norbert F.Willo
The freezer column iced up around the fan housing and started buzzing. He found the drain line frozen solid where it runs behind the cabinet, thawed it out, and fitted a new drain heater clip.
